28 areas, including Metro Manila, may swelter under 42°C+ heat index on Easter Sunday — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that 28 areas across the country, including Pasay City in Metro Manila, could experience dangerously high heat indices of 42 degrees Celsius (°C) or above on Easter Sunday, April 20.
Based on its latest forecast, PAGASA said Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Olongapo City, Zambales are forecast to record the day’s highest heat index at 45°C.
Other areas may see a heat index of 43°C, including Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Echague, Isabela; Baler, Aurora; Casiguran, Aurora; Camiling, Tarlac; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; and Iloilo City, Iloilo.
Meanwhile, a 42°C heat index may be experienced in Pasay City, Metro Manila; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Tarlac City, Tarlac; Cavite City, Cavite; Tanauan, Batangas; Infanta, Quezon; Alabat, Quezon; Coron, Palawan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Pili, Camarines Sur; Roxas City, Capiz; Mambusao, Capiz; Dumangas, Iloilo; La Carlota, Negros Occidental; Catarman, Northern Samar; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.
PAGASA classifies heat indices ranging from 42°C to 51°C under the “danger” category, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, and continued exposure could lead to heatstroke.

PAGASA said the easterlies, or warm winds originating from the Pacific Ocean, will continue to bring hot and humid conditions across the country.
Although isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon or evening, they are unlikely to significantly reduce daytime temperatures.
