University of Santo Tomas flexed its might and made quick work of Adamson, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday, April 2.

Fresh off a four-set victory over De La Salle University, the Golden Spikers made it two in a row with two-time UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez spearheading UST’s attack with 13 points off 12 attacks and one block.
Jan Macam and Jay De La Noche backed him up with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the España-based squad improved its record to 6-4.
“I think the team is responding well with the instructions and they followed the game plan, maganda ‘yong execution namin kahit merong lapses, pero it’s part of the match pa rin ‘eh,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon.
“I think all my emotions were being utilized dito… kailangan lang namin idiin pa kung ano yung pangangailangan pa nila na adjustments,” he added.
On the other hand, Adamson suffered its eighth defeat against two wins at ninth spot.
UST’s triumphant outing resulted in a three-way with Ateneo and La Salle in the standings.
Meanwhile, DLSU survived arch-rival Ateneo, 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 27-25, in their 2-hour and 19-minute marathon match.
Noel Kampton and Ken Batas went back-and-forth as they tried to lift their respective teams.
Kampton, who celebrated his 25th birthday, exploded with 27 points on 23 attacks, one block, and three aces along with four excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions. Vince Maglinao provided the big boost with 22 points for La Salle.
Batas, for his part, erupted with 26 points – all from attacks – while Christian Quijano and Amil Pacinio Jr. added 20 and 18, which, however, went all down the drain.
