This cake is not for eating, it's a beautiful art piece

Filipino artist Ross Capili presents stunning tribute to nature at Artexpo New York

Ross Capili is an artist best known for his abstract artworks. Having started in his teenage years, his art continues to shine decades later for its vivid imagery. To this day, he hones his craft by taking his work on a global scale as he presents his stunning tribute to nature in this year's Artexpo New York.

Entitled, "Happy Cake for Mother Earth," Capili's latest exhibit focuses on our unique relationship with nature. Though his pieces seem like irresistible cakes from afar, Capili's work instead offers a tasty critique of how we don't stop to appreciate the finer things in life. As stated on his Facebook profile, these cakes evoke "the idea of devouring the icing and cake without savoring its taste."

Capili highlights how this rushed lifestyle leads us to "consume without appreciation" by simply enjoying the fruits of nature without striving to appreciate its important role in keeping the world moving. As we focus on moving things forward, we fail to preserve the beauty and wonder of nature. Another point raised is how "we neglect our duties as stewards of the Earth, ignoring the consequences of our actions on the environment and future generations." Capili also emphasizes how we continue rushing through life, "consuming and exploiting resources without being fully present, mindful, or grateful for the natural world that sustains us."

Artexpo New York runs from April 3 to April 6, 2025. Capili's work will be located at the Na2ra booth S201.
