ILOILO CITY – The Iloilo City Police Office is investigating an off-duty policeman who allegedly poisoned roosters about to compete in a cockfight.
“If warranted, we will file appropriate (administrative and criminal) charges,” said ICPO Director Police Col. Kim Legada.
The incident happened in neighboring town of Leganes over the weekend.
The lawman was identified based on CCTV footage as he was seen going and forth in the area where the roosters are being kept before the cockfight.
The police officer with the rank of patrolman is assigned at Police Station 7 in Iloilo City.
The ICPO reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against any form of illegal gambling and misconduct among police personnel.
“I have given direct instructions to our unit commanders to strictly monitor their personnel. Any involvement in illegal gambling or similar activities will not be tolerated,” Legada said.
Legada reminded police personnel to uphold the law at all times.
“Law enforcers must be role models of integrity. Any officer found violating this directive will face administrative and criminal consequences,” Legada added.
