Marcos Cabinet has said enough in Duterte arrest probe—Palace

Cabinet officials have already provided sufficient facts on the hearing of the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte, Malacañang said, justifying the administration's decision to decline the invitation to attend the next hearing.

Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said Senator Imee Marcos, who leads the Senate panel hearing on Duterte's arrest, received the letter from Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin declining the Cabinet's attendance in the April 3 hearing on March 31.

"At ayon nga po sa napagdesisyunan, alam na po ng mga Cabinet members, mga Cabinet officials natin na sapat na po, sa kanilang pananaw ay sapat na po ang kanilang mga nasabi, naibigay na facts, mga data sa naunang hearing ni Senator Imee Marcos (and based on the decision, the Cabinet members, the Cabinet officials think that they have provided enough facts and data during the first hearing of Senator Imee)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Wednesday, April 2.

"At iyon po sa tingin po namin ay sapat na po, considering the fact na nagkaroon na rin siya ng kanyang preliminary findings (And in our opinion, it was already sufficient considering that she had preliminary findings)," she added.

The Palace official reiterated that the Marcos administration has nothing to hide by opting to not attend the next hearing.

"Wala naman pong itinago, dahil sapat na po iyong napakahabang oras noong unang hearing para po masabi ang dapat na masabi po ng ating mga Cabinet officials patungkol po doon sa pag-surrender kay dating pangulong Duterte sa ICC (There is nothing to hide because the long hearing last time was already enough for our Cabinet officials to give sufficient data on the handover of former president Duterte to the ICC)," Castro said, responding to the senator's statement that the next hearing would be an opportunity to prove that the administration is not hiding something over the arrest.

If the senator asks for a reconsideration, they would have to wait and see, Castro said.

"Tingnan po natin kung ano po ang mangyayari, kung siya po ay ay nag-a-ask ng reconsideration, wala pa pong tugon dito si ES Bersamin (We'll see what will happen if she would ask for reconsideration, there is no response yet from Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin)," Castro said.
