DepEd investigates incident at Bagong Silangan High School, vows support for students
A disturbing video showing a girl being attacked by classmates in a classroom has spread online, prompting the Department of Education (DepEd) to "actively" address the incident, which reportedly occurred at Bagong Silangan High School in Quezon City.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 4, DepEd responded to the viral bullying incident at Bagong Silangan HS, promising swift action and support for the students involved.
DepEd confirmed that it is "actively addressing" the incident at the Quezon City school.
“We have instructed the school to expedite the investigation and provide the necessary support to the involved learners,” said Dennis Legaspi, Media Relations Chief under the Office of DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara.
“A meeting has been scheduled with the school’s Child Protection Committee to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that all parties are properly heard,” he added.
Support for bullying victims
As the situation develops, DepEd reiterated its commitment to prioritizing student safety and reinforcing anti-bullying measures to foster a secure and supportive learning environment.
“We are committed to ensuring that the bullying victim and all affected learners receive the support they need, and that their safety and well-being are prioritized throughout the investigation,” Legaspi said.
He also noted that DepEd's Learner Rights and Protection Division (LRPD) is providing technical assistance to the school to implement preventive measures and ensure appropriate responses to bullying.
“We are also reviewing the school’s compliance with anti-bullying policies and providing additional training to staff as needed,” he added.
DepEd’s ongoing commitment
Legaspi emphasized that DepEd remains steadfast in its mission to protect the well-being of all learners and to ensure a safe, supportive school environment.
“In line with this, we emphasize that addressing bullying requires a unified and comprehensive approach,” he explained.
“It is imperative that learners, teachers, parents, and school leaders work together to establish a safe and supportive environment for all members of the school community,” he added.
