What was supposed to be a fun beach outing quickly turned into a nightmare after a jeepney carrying 25 passengers turned turtle in Bolinao, Pangasinan on Good Friday, April 18.
Citing accounts from one of the passengers, a report from the Bolinao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said the jeepney driver attempted to overtake another vehicle while descending a slope in Barangay Catuday, causing it to overturn.
The incident took place around 5:17 p.m.
Onboard the jeepney were passengers who were supposed to go to Patar Beach in Bolinao to spend the Holy Week break.
Personnel of the Bolinao MDRRMO Rescue Team immediately responded to the accident site and administered first aid to the injured passengers.
Of the passengers, 17 were injured while eight were unscathed.
Four of those hurt required an x-ray and additional evaluation so they were referred to Western Pangasinan District Hospital in Alaminos City.
Meanwhile, 12 others sustained minor abrasions while one was diagnosed with a left femoral fracture near the knee. They were brought to Bolinao Community Hospital.
