3 drown in Batangas on Good Friday

Three individuals, including a four-year-old boy, drowned on Good Friday in the towns of Bauan, San Nicolas, and Agoncillo in Batangas.

The Police Regional Office 4-A identified the victims as Zash Alissandro Monsales, four, a resident of General Trias, Cavite; Ferdinand de Castro, 45, married, of Barangay Malitam, Batangas City, and Romel Jayupelin, 33, single, of Victoria Ville, Barangay  Rosario, Pasig City.

Monsales was playing in a private swimming pool in Barangay Poblacion, San Nicolas, at about 7 p.m. on Friday when he drowned.

He was taken to the Metro Lemery Medical Center in Lemery where he was declared dead by Dr. Mark Leonard Navarro.

De Castro's body was found floating at the Offshore Keppel Shipyard in Barangay Bolo, Bauan at about 5 p.m.

A company guard discovered the victim’s body and reported it to authorities.

Investigation disclosed that the victim was reported missing by the Batangas City MDRRMO at around 5 p.m. He was last seen alive at about 3:30 p.m. on April 17 on board a boat in Barangay Bolo, Bauan.

The victim was examined by Dr. Wiston Ilagan, Municipal Health Officer, and cause of death was cerebral hypoxia secondary to drowning and there are no indications of foul play.

Jayupelin drowned while tending to floating fish cages at Taal Lake in Barangay Banyaga, Agoncillo.

Two men tried to rescue him but failed.

The victim’s body was retrieved at about 10:20 a. m. on April 18 and taken to Saint Peter Funeral Homes, Taal.
