Several devotees hurt in Jesus Nazareno's Holy Week procession

The Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno (Quiapo Church) said that around 532,000 devotees joined its 2025 Holy Week procession with several reports of injuries and people who needed medical attention.

 

A total of 1,152 medical cases were recorded with nine of them taken to various hospitals in Manila for treatment.  Three of the victims were reportedly in critical condition. The officials of Quiapo Church are monitoring the victims’ conditions.

 

Rector and Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan said on Good Friday, April 18, that the procession lasted 11 hours and 26 minutes, which started at 11:15 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, April 17, and ended at 10:45 a.m. on Good Friday.

 

The route of the procession covered Plaza Miranda to Carlos Palanca Street, Quezon Blvd., Arlegui, Fraternal, Vergara, Duque de Alba, Catillejos, Farnecio, P. Casal, Concepcion Aguila, Cacer, Hidalgo, Bilibid Viejo, Z. P. De Guzman, P. Hidalgo, and Villalobos Streets. See map below:

The Quiapo Church extended its gratitude to government agencies, volunteers, and devotees who helped ensure a solemn, orderly, and safe Holy Week celebration.

 

Meanwhile, following the procession, the Manila Department of Public Services (Manila DPS) immediately conducted clearing operations around Quiapo to restore cleanliness and order in the area.
