ICC: Prosecution in Duterte trial must submit all evidence until July 1

The International Criminal Court (ICC) Pre-Trial Chamber 1 has ordered the prosecution to complete the disclosure of evidence on the crimes against humanity case of former president Rodrigo Duterte not later than July 1.

In a 20-page order issued by the ICC on April 17, the prosecutor must disclose evidence including witness statements by the said date.

"[T]he Prosecution shall complete the disclosure process by no later than 1 July 2025," the ICC said.

"This includes all the evidence it intends to rely upon at the confirmation of charges hearing, including the totality of the witness statements and their translations, the exculpatory material that it has identified thus far, and the material falling under rule 77 of the Rules," the ICC added.

The ICC also noted that any piece of evidence submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

"Any items of evidence submitted after that date will not be taken into account for the purposes of the confirmation of charges hearing," ICC said.

Duterte is currently detained in The Hague. He was arrested in Manila upon his arrival from Hongkong on March 11 for crimes against humanity. His first appearance before the ICC for the confirmation of charges came three days after his arrest.

Duterte is facing charges of crime against humanity of murder allegedly committed in the Philippines between Nov. 1, 2011 and March 16, 2019.
