20,000 Catholic devotees attend Holy Week pilgrimage in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY - More than 20,000 Catholic devotees attended  the yearly pilgrimage to the Abong Abong Park in Pasonanca here for the Holy Week.

The Mobile Command Center estimated the crowd on Maundy Thursday to have reached 20,592.   People continue to troop to the area today, Good Friday.

Aside from Abong Abong, Zamboangueños also visited Monte Santo in Barangay Lumayang in the city’s east coast.

More than 1,000 personnel from the Zamboanga City Police Office, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, city government, and force multipliers were deployed to Abong Abong Park to ensure order.

Security forces were also deployed to Monte Santo and the different churches where crowds congregated for Visita Iglesia on Thursday.
