The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public to report any candidate who would dare to defy the prohibition to campaign on April 17 and 18, 2025—Maundy Thursday and Good Friday—in observance of Holy Week.
PNP chief Gen Rommel Francisco Marbil said the complainants and tipsters could either go to the nearest police station or inform the police through social media channels and hotlines.
He then warned the candidates, particularly local bets, and their supporters to comply with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 10999, which clearly bans all election campaigning or partisan political activities during these two days.
“The PNP has teams on the ground to monitor compliance across the country. Those who break the rules will be held accountable,” said Marbil.
Under the Omnibus Election Code, the punishment for the violators include imprisonment, disqualification to hold public office and deprivation of the right to vote.
“As protectors of peace and order, the PNP is here to make sure Holy Week is observed properly and that election activities stay within the bounds of the law,” said Marbil.
“Campaigning on these sacred days is not just illegal—it’s a disrespect to our values and traditions. Let’s all do our part for a better Philippines by following the law and showing respect,” he added.
