Mayor Honey urges residents to observe fire safety, spiritual reflection this Holy Week

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan reminded residents to observe fire safety measures during the Holy Week break, particularly as many families leave their homes for the long weekend.
She urged the public not to leave lighted candles unattended and to ensure that gas stoves and LPG tanks are turned off before leaving their homes.
"Gamitin po natin ang panahon na ito upang makapagnilay-nilay, magbalik-loob sa Panginoon, patatagin ang ating paniniwala sa Kanya at maipahinga ang ating katawan at isipan
(Let us use this time to reflect, return to the Lord, strengthen our faith in Him, and allow our bodies and minds to rest)," said Lacuna-Pangan.
The mayor also advised the residents who plan to visit churches for the traditional Visita Iglesia to stay hydrated and avoid exposure to the sun during peak hours, especially with the rising temperatures this season.
She emphasized that fires caused by unattended candles and improperly handled gas tanks or stoves have been among the most common incidents during Holy Week, particularly in residential areas.
“Lalo na ngayon na mainit ang panahon, hindi malayong magkaroon ng sunog kung pababayaan natin ang mga kandila o gasera (Especially now that the weather is hot, fires can easily happen if we leave candles or gas tanks unattended)," she warned.
Mayor Lacuna-Pangan informed the public that both city-run cemeteries—the Manila North Cemetery (MNC) and the Manila South Cemetery (MSC)—will be closed on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in observance of the Lenten season.
According to MNC Director Yayay Castaneda, regular operations at the Manila North Cemetery will resume on Black Saturday.
