In a message of condolence on Thursday, April 17, the President called the late Superstar “our consummate actress, singer, and film producer” with a career that spanned more than 50 years.
“She has won national and international awards for her performances. Her golden voice was a balm for all. Her genius was a gift to the Filipino nation,” he said.
“I offer my heartfelt condolences to Nora Aunor’s family, friends, and the film industry itself. Let us pray together for the eternal repose of the soul of our beloved national artist,” he added.
Marcos took note of Aunor’s produced films—“Banaue,” “Bona,” and “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos”—“that will forever be part of the national heritage.”
“Her other stellar performances can be found in ‘Himala,’ ‘Thy Womb,’ and ‘The Flor Contemplacion Story’,” he cited.
The multi-talented actress’ death was announced by her son, actor Ian de Leon, on Facebook.
He did not disclose the cause of her death.
Aunor, who’s real name is Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, recently withdrew her candidacy in the 2025 midterm elections as the second nominee of the People’s Champ Guardians party-list due to health reasons.
She said she was advised by her doctors to avoid stressful situations, such as campaigning.
