ILOILO CITY — This Holy Week, the Catholice faithful are urged to include the jubilee churches in Iloilo and Guimaras as part of their traditional Visita Iglesia or visiting seven churches.

Citing the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the Archdiocese of Jaro released the jubilee churches for the Jubilee Year of Hope.
One is the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral in Iloilo City. The church houses the only Marian image in the country to be canonically crowned by Saint John Paul II when he was a Roman Catholic pope.
Another is the Beaterio de Molo or the Holy Rosary Chapel of the Dominican Sisters in Molo District here. Its foundress, the Venerable Mother Rosario de la Visitacion, is being considered by the Vatican for sainthood.
The Saint Thomas of Villanova Church in Miag-ao town, a heritage church and remains to be the only World UNESCO Heritage Site in the Visayas.
The three other churches in Iloilo province are Saint Nicholas of Tolentino Church in Cabatuan town; the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Barotac Viejo town; and the Saint Joseph Church in Pototan town.
The lone church in the island-province of Guimaras is Saint Michael the Archangel Church in the provincial capital of Jordan town.
Fr. Angelo Colada, the archdiocese’s social communications director, reminded that the churches are praises of worship and not a tourist site.
“Let us include Jesus. Let us experience His love and mercy and be bearers of hope for others,” Colada said.
