
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) welcomed the promotion of Director Jesus Piedad Fernandez as chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
President Marcos apppointed Fernandez on April 11 and the DILG is expecting him to lead the modernization efforts of the BFP.
Fernandez was designated by DILG Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla as officer-in-charge (OIC) of the BFP following the mandatory retirement of his predecessor Louie Puracan last December 2024.
He served as BFP Director for Logistics in 2016, and Director for Comptrollership a year after and was the Regional Director of Region 4-A for two years, chief directorial staff and acting deputy chief for administration in 2022.
Fernandez is a member of Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) “Sandigan” Class of 1994 and handled various offices in Region 2 and the National Capital Region.
The new BFP chief was also the former Tuguegarao City Fire Marshal and Quezon City District Fire Marshal.
