Alex Eala’s claycourt campaign at the Oeiras Ladies Open came to an early end on Thursday, April 17, after succumbing to her unseed rival in the second round in Portugal.

The top-seeded Eala couldn’t muster enough firepower and yielded to Panna Udvardy of Hungary, 7-6 (4), 6-4, in this Women’s Tennis Association (WTA12) tournament.
After a tight opening set defeat, the 19-year-old Eala fought back with a strong start in the second frame by taking a 2-0 lead but Udvardy, who was seven years old, leaned on her experience and kept the match close.
Tied at 4, the Hungarian unleashed aggressive shots to clinch the next two games and eventually, the victory.
Prior to the defeat, Eala flexed her might and toppled Dutch Anouk Koevermans, 6-3, 6-4, in the opening round.
The loss also came a day after Eala and partner Katie Volynets bowed out in the doubles as the unseeded pair succumbed to fourth seed Carmen Corley and Christina Rosca, 6-3, 6-4.
