RDRRMC Chairman Director Carlos Eduardo Alvarez III expects an influx of devotees and pilgrims visiting the Our Lady of Sorrows National Shrine in Kinabuhayan, Dolores, Quezon, and Saint Padre Pio National Shrine in Santo Tomas City, Batangas.
The RDRRMC aims to ensure preparedness of the local disaster management offices, specifically in pilgrimage and other tourist sites in the region.
Carlos expects that local government units already have a contingency plan and emergency preparedness measures in their areas of concern.
He issued RDRRMC Memorandum No. 40 last March 28 declaring blue alert status at the RDRRMC Emergency Operations Center and the activation of the local DRRMCs operation centers, response teams, and continuity of information education and advocacy campaign regarding the high heat index being experienced.
The RDRRMC said monitoring with various government agencies is being conducted from April 11 to 21 to ensure safety of devotees during the Holy Week.
