Malabon, Valenzuela issue Holy Week safety guidelines

The city governments of Malabon and Valenzuela issued on Wednesday, April 16, safety guidelines for travelers and those who will stay at home during the Holy Week break.

Malabon officials urged people to stay alert during the holiday break.

They advised those going on vacation to lock all doors and windows, unplug appliances, turn off lights, avoid posting travel plans on social media, inform a trusted neighbor or relative about their trip, and check their homes before leaving.

Travelers were also reminded to inspect their vehicles before leaving, depart early to avoid traffic, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, bring a first aid kit and emergency contacts, and prepare well to ensure a safe trip.

Residents were encouraged to reach out to the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) at 0942-372-9891, 0919-062-5588, 8921-6009, or 8921-6029, or contact the city through the Malabon AHON 24/7 Alert App for any emergency needs.

Meanwhile, Valenzuela city officials provided a checklist for before, during, and after travel.

Before traveling, residents were advised to learn about their destination, prepare medicine and a first aid kit, turn off the gas and unplug appliances, secure important documents, and ask someone to watch over their home.

During the trip, the public was reminded to stay in touch with family, be aware of their surroundings, avoid risky activities, stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, avoid oversharing travel details online, and follow local laws.

After the trip, travelers were encouraged to inspect their homes for any issues, report lost items if any, and get enough rest.

The Valenzuela government also reminded drivers to follow the BLOWBAGETS checklist, which stands for Battery, Liquids, Oil, Water, Brakes, Air (tire pressure), Gas, Engine, Tires, and Signals, especially important for long-distance travel.

For residents staying in the city, the local government encouraged downloading the Valenzuela Alert app for real-time updates and emergency assistance. Both cities hope these reminders help ensure a peaceful, safe, and meaningful Holy Week and summer vacation for all.
