Filinvest City's Carless Sundays expands the movement for a healthier, more connected community

For 11 years, Filinvest City’s Carless Sundays has turned busy streets into a playground for runners, bikers, families, and even fur babies, proof that urban life and open spaces can—and do—coexist. This year, the movement grows even bigger, with expanded routes giving the community more room to move, breathe, and connect.

At Filinvest City, major roads and avenues within the Garden City of the Metro South are closed to vehicular traffic every Sunday from 5:00 am to 9:00 am. The expanded route now includes Filinvest Avenue, Corporate Avenue, Commerce Avenue, Parkway Avenue, Promenade Street, ASEAN Drive, and Spectrum B and C, forming a loop around Central Park.

That means more space for walking, jogging, biking, and simply enjoying a traffic-free morning in the city. It also makes room for skateboards and rollerblades—or even shooting a TikTok video or two. After all, everyone deserves a slow, laid-back, maybe even lazy weekend.

Carless Sundays first launched in 2013, originally covering one lane of Commerce Avenue, Corporate Avenue, Parkway Avenue, and Filinvest Avenue. In 2022, certain roads were designated as shared roads to accommodate the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, allowing individuals to engage in solo outdoor activities such as jogging and biking. These shared roads—where joggers, bikers, and vehicles coexist—continue to be implemented daily in Filinvest City, promoting a balance between mobility and active lifestyles. However, from 2019 to 2024, Carless Sunday routes were adjusted due to the ongoing construction of new green developments and open spaces. Now, in 2025, with the completion of several key projects, Carless Sundays is being extended with larger routes, providing participants with a broader and more connected experience.

“Filinvest City has always been about creating a living, breathing city—one where people can thrive and truly connect with their surroundings,” said Don Ubaldo, Head of Filinvest Townships. “Carless Sundays is our way of giving back to the community, offering safe and open spaces where people can walk, run, bike, and simply enjoy the city. As we expand the routes this 2025, we invite everyone to take part in this movement and experience the Garden City of the Metro South in a whole new way.”

A healthier, more active community

For residents and visitors alike, Carless Sundays offers more than just a chance to exercise. It’s an opportunity to connect with neighbors and experience the city at a different pace. Joggers and bikers can explore the loop around Central Park, while families with kids and pet owners can enjoy the open streets without worrying about traffic. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, with Zumba sessions, exercise classes, and rope-skipping stations adding to the fun.

If you’re looking for a new experience, you can rent a bike for yourself or your kids. For those who prefer to unwind, the IKEA Vibe Park offers a cozy spot with stylish and functional furniture where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air. Right next to it is a public library called The Book Stop Project, a pop-up library along the route that encourages visitors to pick up, borrow, or donate a book—combining leisure with community spirit.

Strengthening community ties

The success of Carless Sundays reflects the strong sense of community within Filinvest City. Over the years, the event has become a weekly gathering point where people of all ages come together to share a morning of fitness and fun. It reinforces the idea that urban spaces should be designed not just for functionality, but for people to thrive.

By expanding the route this year, Filinvest City hopes to accommodate even more participants and inspire new traditions. The event supports a balanced urban lifestyle where work, leisure, and wellness coexist harmoniously—a key aspect of Filinvest City’s urban planning philosophy.

Beyond health and wellness, Carless Sundays also carries a deeper environmental impact. Reducing vehicular traffic for a few hours each week helps lower carbon emissions and air pollution, creating cleaner air and a more pleasant urban atmosphere. Over time, this small but consistent reduction in traffic contributes to Filinvest City’s broader environmental goals, including maintaining green spaces and promoting eco-friendly transportation.

The initiative aligns with Filinvest City’s long-term commitment to sustainability. As one of the first developers to introduce car-free zones, Filinvest City has demonstrated foresight in prioritizing open spaces and eco-conscious development. Proof of this dedication is seen through the numerous accolades of Filinvest City, such as the LEED Gold Certification for Neighborhood Development from the U.S. Green Building Council and a 3-Star BERDE Rating from the Philippine Green Building Council. Filinvest City is the first and only CBD in the Philippines to achieve this distinction. Carless Sundays serves as a reminder that urban progress and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual walker, or someone just looking for a relaxing Sunday morning, Carless Sundays offers a welcoming space for everyone. So, lace up your sneakers, grab your bike, and head to Filinvest City this Sunday. The streets are yours to explore.
