Twenty-six Filipinos were repatriated from Oddar Meanchey Province in Cambodia on Wednesday, April 16, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Although the DFA did not specify the reason behind the repatriation, it encouraged the public anew to "read and disseminate" advisories issued by the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia on dubious overseas job opportunities as customer service representative in the foreign country.
According to the embassy, the nationals requested to be repatriated.
"The Philippine Embassy, upon the request of the concerned Filipinos, had made official representations with the Cambodian government for their release from a company in Samraong Municipality, Oddar Meanchey Province," the DFA said.
The Philippine government expressed its appreciation for the assistance extended by the Royal Government of Cambodia for the Filipinos' repatriation.
"The effective coordination between the Embassy and the Cambodian authorities is a testament to the long-standing friendly ties between the Philippines and Cambodia and highlights both governments’ readiness to cooperate closely in matters of mutual concern," the DFA said.
Representatives from government agencies, including the DFA, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administrator (OWWA), and Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), were at the airport to personally receive the 26 repatriates and provide them assistance.
The DFA assured the public that its assistance-to-nationals mandate remains a priority for all Philippine Foreign Service Posts.
In its advisory on April 7, the embassy in Cambodia said it has observed the proliferation of social media ads, including on Facebook and Telegram, for job opportunities as customer service representatives or chat support representatives overseas.
It added that in many cases, these supposed jobs involve victimizing unsuspecting individuals through love scams or fake investment schemes.
The embassy further said that quite a few Filipinos have either knowingly pursued or been duped by the employment package offers which include salary ranging from $800 to  $1,000 or more; free food and accommodation; and benevolent employer and excellent working conditions.Â
