Occasional ash emissions continue at Kanlaon Volcano; Alert Level 3 remains in effect

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded three ash emission events that lasted up to four hours on Monday, April 14.

In its 24-hour monitoring of the active volcano on Negros Island, Phivolcs said the emissions persisted for durations ranging from 41 to 253 minutes.

The emissions produced a voluminous, ash-laden plume that rose to 800 meters and drifted west-northwestward to westward.

The event was accompanied by 33 volcanic earthquakes, including five tremors lasting eight to 23 minutes.

Phivolcs said Kanlaon Volcano continues to exhibit degassing activity with occasional ash emissions.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating increased volcanic unrest and an increased likelihood of hazardous eruptions.

Phivolcs reiterated that entry into the six-kilometer danger zone is strictly prohibited due to the risk of sudden explosions.

Authorities also advised residents to stay indoors during ashfall events, keep windows and doors closed, and wear face masks or use damp cloths to minimize health risks.
