
A 38-year-old man who was allegedly high on drugs and who attempted to jump from the C5 flyover was rescued and subsequently arrested by the Pasig City Police after yielding illegal drugs in Barangay Ugong, Pasig City on Sunday, April 13.
Based on the police report, the suspect, identified as "John," was seen by bystanders preparing to jump over the bridge, prompting them to seek assistance from the police.
The responding policemen successfully rescued John who was already standing on the edge of the bridge.
Upon checking him for injuries, the police found the suspect's coin purse that he threw before attempting to jump off the bridge which contained a gram of kush or high-grade marijuana and a ceramic tube pipe used for sniffing.
Police added that John was under the influence of marijuana during the incident.
He was brought to the Eastern Police District (EPD) Forensic Unit office in Mandaluyong City for a drug test.
Complaints of alarm and scandal and violation of Section 11, Article II of RA 9165 are being prepared against the suspect.
EPD OIC Brig. Gen Aden Lagrante lauded the prompt response of the rescue team that saved John's life.
"I highly commend the collaborative efforts exerted by our police officers and the rescue team for swiftly pacifying the situation. The excellent service of our men is indeed a reflection of our dedication in fulfilling our crucial role beyond the call of duty," Lagrante said.
"It is a saddening truth that rampant illegal drugs are the root causes of other crimes and adversities such as this. As law enforcers, we assure to exert our earnest efforts to prevent such occurrence, and protect and save lives, as we are bound to." He added.
