A group of protesters carrying placards and wooden crosses held a lightning rally in Mendiola on Tuesday morning, April 15, to demand sweeping political and economic reforms.
The demonstration was quickly and peacefully monitored by the Manila Police District - District Mobile Force Battalion (MPD-DMFB).
The rally, which began at 10 a. m. and ended by 10:30 a. m., was led by socialist activist Ding Dalis and drew a minimal crowd.
Protesters carried symbolic wooden cross signs, which they said represented the burden carried by the Filipino working class under what they called a "system of elitism and dynastic rule."
Among their key demands were:
The end of elitist and traditional political dominance (“Wakasan ang paghahari ng mga Elitista at Trapo”)
The dismantling of political dynasties
The abolition of the Regional Wage Board, which they claim creates economic hardship for workers
Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingents of the MPD-DMFB, were deployed to the scene.
Authorities ensured that the situation remained calm and orderly.
No confrontations or arrests were reported, and the rally dispersed peacefully within half an hour.
