The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered the suspension of operations of a bus company involved in a multiple-vehicle collision on the southbound lane of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Valenzuela City, on Monday night, April 14, which left 13 people injured — including the bus driver and conductor.

Authorities said the bus, which was carrying 30 passengers, was reportedly traveling at high speed from Angat, Bulacan to Monumento, Caloocan when the driver lost control and crashed into a closed van and a dump truck at around 7:30 p.m. near the fourth lane of the expressway.

The impact left the front portion of the bus heavily damaged and its windshield completely shattered.

Rescue teams immediately responded to the scene and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals.

Authorities said that no fatalities were reported.

The accident also caused heavy traffic, compounding the volume of vehicles due to the Holy Week exodus.

The DOTr approved the suspension of the bus company which operates routes between Manila and Pampanga.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to serve the suspension order.

Both the bus and dump truck drivers were brought to the Valenzuela police station for investigation.

The parties reportedly reached a settlement, with the bus company committing to shoulder the medical expenses of all injured passengers. (Jhoana Mae Delfin)
