Cool Smashers tap Russian, Kazakh reinforcements for AVC Women's Champions League

The team announced Tuesday, April 15, the acquisition of Russian wing spiker Anastasiya Kudryashova and Kazakh middle blocker Anastassiya Kolomoyets for the weeklong hostilities that would start on April 20 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The two players were former teammates in the Women’s National League in Kazakhstan where they played for the VC Kuanysh.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Kolomoyets, 34, is competing in the tournament. She last saw action three years ago with the VC Kuanysh where the team won the event previously named as Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.

The 6-foot-4 Kudryashova, meanwhile, played in clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was also an outside hitter for Penn State University and Rutgers University.

Kolomoyets and Kudryashova are set to join forces with American import Erica Staunton, who has already suited up for the Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League.

Creamline is bracketed in Pool a with Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu and Jordan’s Al Naser, while two other Filipino club teams are also seeing action.

Newly-crowned PVL All-Filipino champion Petro Gazz is bracketed in Pool B with Chinese Taipei’s Kaohsiung Taipower and Hong Kong’s Hip Hing, while PLDT is in Pool D with Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC and Australia’s Queensland Pirates.

Pool C is composed of China’s Beijing BAIC Motor, Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An and Iran’s Saipa Tehran.
