BACOLOD CITY – A police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash in Barangay Napoles, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Monday, April 14.
The victim was Police Staff Sgt. Hero John Trayco, 36, an intelligence officer assigned to the Bago City Police Station and a resident of Barangay Napoles, Bago City.
Police Major Emman Anacleto, Bago City deputy police chief, said that Trayco was conducting covert operations late Sunday night, April 13, with a colleague.
He felt unwell and decided to head home after his duty past midnight.
Trayco allegedly lost control of his motorcycle and fell into a canal on his way home.
His body was discovered early Monday morning by a barangay watchman lying face down in the canal.
Despite wearing a helmet, Trayco sustained fatal head injuries due to the impact.
Authorities suspect he may have been suffering from hypertension, possibly worsened by the extreme heat, though his medical history was not fully disclosed.
Police ruled out foul play as no signs of struggle were found at the scene.
His service firearm and other personal belongings were intact and his family believes the incident was purely accidental.
