Another show cause order has once again been issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), this time, against a poll candidate who made racist remarks.

Comelec's Task Force on Safeguarding Against Fear & Exclusion in Elections (Task Force SAFE) asked Pasay City mayoral candidate Editha "Wowee" Manguera to explain a derogatory remark she made against foreign students during a campaign sortie.
The task force said that Manguera's statement referred to foreign students studying and interning at the Pasay City General Hospital.
She was quoted saying: "Tanggalin na natin ang mga bumbay para wala nang amoy sibuyas na maiwan sa Pasay Gen (Let's remove the bumbay so there won't be no onion smell left at Pasay Gen)."
The word "Bumbay" is a colloquial and often derogatory Filipino term referring to Indian nationals or those of Indian descent.
According to the anti-discriminatory panel, this constitutes a possible violation of Comelec Resolution No. 11116 or the Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaigning Guidelines for Purposes of the May 2025 National and Local Elections and BARMM Parliamentary Elections.
Under Section 3, it particularly mentioned racial discrimination as an election offense.
"In view of the foregoing, you are hereby ordered to show cause in writing within a non-extendible period of three (3) days from the receipt thereof to explain why a complaint for election offense and/or a petition for disqualification should not be filed against you," the task force said.
"Failure on your part to comply with this Order shall be construed a waiver of your right to be heard and the filing of the appropriate case against you," it added.
