52 PUV drivers test positive for drugs

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Fifty-two out of 1,569 public utility drivers in Zamboanga Peninsula tested positive for prohibited drugs during random drug testing under Oplan Harabas conducted last Monday by the Land Transportation Office-9 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-9.

Zamboanga City had the highest number of positive drivers with 28, followed by 20 in Pagadian City, and four in Zamboanga Sibugay.

The tests were conducted among jeepney, van, and tricycle drivers.

All positive cases were referred to their respective Anti-Drug Abuse Councils for proper intervention.

“Oplan: Harabas is a preventive measure to ensure our drivers are not under the influence of illegal drugs," said Marahani R. Gadaoni-Tosoc, PDEA-9 director.

"The safety of the commuting public remains our top priority,” added Tosoc.
