3 Cebu bus drivers test positive for illegal drugs


CEBU CITY – Three bus drivers tested positive for illegal drugs during a random drug testing in two major terminals here on Tuesday, April 15.

A total of 109 bus drivers, 54 at the Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT) and 55 at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT), underwent screening.

Leia Alcantara, information officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7), said two bus drivers at NSBT and another one at CSBT tested positive for illegal drugs.

“The urine specimen with positive results will be subjected for a confirmatory test,” Alcantara said.

The random drug testing is part of Oplan: Harabas, an inter-agency preparations for this month’s peak travel period, said Alcantara.

The activity was undertaken by the PDEA-7, Land Transportation Office- 7, Police Regional Office-7, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board -7, and the management of both bus terminals.

The drivers who tested positive were assisted by PDEA-7 Regional Public Assistance Desk Officers for referral to appropriate drug treatment and rehab programs.

Aside from random drug testing, PUV operational worthiness inspection, and K9 sweeping were also conducted.
