As the summer heat kicks in, there’s nothing better than to feel your skin soaking in the sunlight and cooling down by the beach. Perhaps you prefer the tranquility of an ice-cold drink and a nice meal while enjoying the seascape view? If you’ve been yearning for your next getaway vacation, look no further than Mactan Newtown Beach.

Manila Bulletin Lifestyle was recently invited to view Mactan Newtown Beach, the latest addition to Megaworld’s bustling township in Mactan Island, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu

Upon entry, one of the first sights is a pool area with a pool bar for your choice of refreshments. If you’re not a fan of sand, it’s a wonderful spot to take a dip and watch the waves go by. There are also cabanas and seats laid around for anyone to take it easy and lounge the afternoon away. Located next to the pool area is the lovely ceremony garden. Our visit timed just right with a wedding photoshoot taking place as we looked around the area. There’s a joy in seeing the families having fun as they posed for shots and explored the greenery. A little bit later in the afternoon, another group gathered in the area for a team-building event, showcasing just how versatile the venue can be. 

As we made our way down to the beach area, there was a beauty in watching the trees sway from the strong winds and the sound of birds flying around the area. A bridge walkway by the beach makes for the perfect spot for an Instagrammable shot. For the thrill-seekers, you can opt to try the banana boat rides, jet skiing, or go parasailing. As for the beach itself, think pristine waters to complement the white sand. There is a fresh saltiness in the air left on your mouth that always leaves you wanting to return. 

Access to the beach is complimentary for township residents and guests of Savoy Hotel Mactan and Belmont Hotel Mactan, while applicable fees apply to residential guests, tourists, and locals. It is open daily from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., including holidays.

Of course, being a township, the beach isn’t the only exciting place to visit in Mactan Newtown. There are new developments already underway to entice future visitors. Already under construction are the Mactan Expo Center, set to boost Cebu’s Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, and the Mactan World Museum, which will showcase pieces and artifacts that highlight our country’s history with Spain. Recently announced as well are two new upcoming restaurants, Gordon Ramsay Street Burger and Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips. 

Located near the township, you can also enjoy marveling over the Mactan Shrine, where a bronze statue of Lapulapu watches over Mactan’s shores. Devotees can also visit the Sto. Niño De Cebu-Mactan Parish, a church built resembling the headdress of Ferdinand Magellan.
