Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced that she has once again received the solid backing of the United Muslim Community in Manila, who pledged their continued support for her leadership and re-election bid, citing her administration’s compassion and service-oriented governance.
During a jampacked rally held in the heart of Quiapo—home to many Muslim residents—the mayor was formally endorsed by various Muslim groups, led by community leaders Barangay Chairman Omaiya Sharief and Chairman Sultan Suharto Buleg Al-Hajj.
They praised her dedication to inclusive programs and especially lauded her dual role as both a public servant and a physician.
“Napakaganda ng ginagawang paglilingkod ng ating mayora. Mayroon na tayong mayor, mayroon pa tayong doktora na bukod sa naglilingkod ay nanggagamot sa mga maysakit nang walang hinihinging kapalit (Our mayor is doing an excellent job. We have not only a mayor but also a doctor who treats the sick without expecting anything in return)” the leaders said. “’Yan ang tunay na lingkod bayan (That is the true meaning of public service).”
Mayor Lacuna-Pangan, who was accompanied by Vice Mayor John Marvin Yul Servo Nieto and Third District Representative Joel Chua, expressed her gratitude for the renewed trust from the Muslim community.
“Maraming salamat sa mga opisyal at miyembro ng United Muslim Community sa Lungsod ng Maynila sa inyong mainit na suporta at pagtitiwala na ipinahayag ninyo sa akin at sa buong Asenso Manileño (Thank you to the officials and members of the United Muslim Community in the City of Manila for your warm support and the trust you have expressed in me and the entire Asenso Manileño team),” Lacuna-Pangan said.
She emphasized that their support serves as an inspiration to do even better, saying, “Ang inyong suporta ay nagsisilbing inspirasyon at lakas upang lalo pa naming pagbutihin ang aming serbisyo at pagtupad sa aming mga pangako para sa mas maunlad, mas inklusibo, at makatarungang Maynila. Makakaasa po kayo na hindi ko kayo bibiguin (Your support is a source of inspiration and strength for us to further improve our services and fulfill our promises for a more progressive, inclusive, and just Manila. You can count on me—I will not let you down).”
The event also included the Manila Muslim Pledge of Loyalty, a formal ceremony where Muslim community members took an oath before Lacuna-Pangan, reaffirming their commitment to support her administration.
“Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat sa ating mga kapatid na Muslim, sa inyong muling pagtitiwala (Many, many thanks to our Muslim brothers and sisters for your renewed trust), ” the mayor added.
“Makakaasa po kayong hinding-hindi namin kayo pababayaan at lalong-lalo na, hinding-hindi namin kayo iiwan (You can be assured that we will never neglect you and, most importantly, never leave you behind).”
This is not the first time the Muslim community in Manila has endorsed Lacuna-Pangan.
In 2022, they also threw their support behind her and her slate, which played a significant role in their successful campaign.
