BACOLOD CITY – Three barangays in Bago City, Negros Occidental experienced light ashfall following an ash emission from Kanlaon Volcano shortly before noon on Monday, April 14.
The Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that it received a report that ash fell on Barangays Ilijan, Mailum, and Binubuhan. Residents were advised to wear face masks for protection against volcanic hazards.

Due to the ash emission activity, classes at La Carlota City College shifted to online or modular mode until Wednesday, April 16, per announcement on their Facebook page on Monday. Students on both campuses – Cubay and Main – were advised to go home immediately.
In Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, Edna Lhou Masicampo, public information officer, said that recognition and moving up ceremonies in schools continue despite the volcano’s activity on Monday. She added that the situation in the city is okay.
Meanwhile, the Regional Task Force Kanlaon, in a memorandum issued on April 12, prohibited any form of pilgrimage and trekking, especially entry into the six-kilometer extended danger zone during the observance of Holy Week.
All local DRRMOs of concerned local government units (LGUs) surrounding the volcano were directed to activate their Incident Management Teams (IMTs) and immediately place all responders on high alert status to ensure preparedness and rapid response capability.
