Bacolod logs second dengue fatality


BACOLOD CITY – A 42-year-old woman from Barangay Mansilingan here is the second dengue fatality in this city this year, according to a report from the City Health Office (CHO) released on Monday, April 14.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environmental Sanitation Division, said that the patient was admitted to a hospital on March 24 after suffering from an undocumented fever with abdominal and epigastric pain for one week.

Tan said the patient passed away later that day after she was diagnosed with severe dengue hemorrhagic fever.

The first fatality was a 64-year-old man from Barangay Alijis last February.

CHO data said a total of 301 dengue cases have been recorded here from March 30 to April 5, 155.1 percent higher than the same period last year, with 118 cases and no fatality.

Barangays with cases were Mansilingan with 26, Estefania and Tangub with 24 each, Taculing, 23; Alijis and Villamonte with 21 each, Mandalagan, 17; Handumanan, 16; Singcang-Airport, 15, and Vista Alegre, 14.

One-hundred nineteen cases were reported under age one to 10, 89 for age 11 to 19, and  three cases for less than one-year-old, bringing the total to 211.
