The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has officially accepted the resignation of Xavier “Xavy” Nunag as basketball commissioner, the league announced Saturday, April 12.

According to UAAP, Nunag, who worked as basketball chief of the 8-school tournament from early Season 86 up to 87, said that he plans to focus on his other business pursuits.
The resignation will be effective Friday, April 18.
“On behalf of the UAAP, we extend our deepest gratitude to Commissioner Xavy Nunag for his service to the league,” said UAAP Season 87 Treasurer Dolreich "Bo" Perasol of host school University of the Philippines.
“His leadership introduced meaningful innovations in our basketball officiating and tournament management, and we are truly thankful for the dedication and professionalism he brought to the role,” he added.
While in office, Nunag put premium on improving the competition in high school boys, junior high school boys and girls, and collegiate men’s and women’s tournaments with the help of his two deputies Atty. Mariana Lopa and Marvin Bienvenida.
Lopa recently stepped down, while Bienvenida remains at his position and has been named as the acting basketball chief for the incoming 3x3 basketball competition next month.
“It has been a pleasure working with Commissioners Xavy and Atty. Mariana. Their contributions have greatly elevated the standard of our basketball tournaments,” said UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene Andrei “Rebo” Saguisag Jr.
“We are confident that Commissioner Marvin will continue the fine work they have started as we get ready for the 3x3 season. Maraming salamat,” he concluded.
