Muntinlupa LGU suspends afternoon activities in public schools due to extreme heat
The Muntinlupa City government suspended afternoon activities in public schools on Friday, April 11, due to extreme heat.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon said based on the monitoring of the Muntinlupa Department of Disaster Resilience and Management, the heat index in Muntinlupa will reach the "danger" level of 42 degree Celsius at 2 p.m.
Heat index “is a measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body's ability to cool itself,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
On the “danger” level of 42 to 51 degree Celsius, PAGASA said, “Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely; heat stroke is probable with continued exposure.”

Biazon said to ensure the safety of students and teachers, afternoon activities are suspended in public schools from day care, kindergarten to Grade 12.
“Para matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral at guro, SUSPENDIDO ang lahat ng school activities sa public schools mula Kindergarten hanggang Grade 12, gayundin sa Early Childhood Education Division, simula 12:00 NN hanggang 4:00pm ngayong araw (To ensure the safety of students and teachers, all school activities in public schools from Kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as in the Early Childhood Education Division, are SUSPENDED from 12:00 NN to 4:00pm today),” the mayor posted on Facebook.
He added, “Bagamat wala nang klase sa mga pampublikong paaralan, may mga naka-schedule pa ring school activities (Although classes are no longer in public schools, some school activities are still scheduled).”
Meanwhile, the Colegio de Muntinlupa (CDM) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) will shift to alternative modes of learning from noon on April 11.
Biazon said for private schools, face-to-face classes are allowed if the schools have enough facilities to protect the students from the extreme heat. The decision will be based on the school administration, he said.
