SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The provincial government is preparing for the Holy Week exodus.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Provincial Health Office to be on full alert to ensure the safety of travelers and visitors in the province.
“Our personnel will be deployed to key areas to ensure the safety and security of visitors expected to flock to our province to enjoy the Holy Week break not only in popular tourist destinations but also in our churches,” she said.
The PDRRMO has prepared rescue equipment and assets and discussed plans for emergency operations.
They have coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices regarding the necessary preparedness measures for the “Oplan: Summer Vacation.”
Two teams composed of four members will be deployed in strategic locations such as coastal areas.
The PHO will deploy its emergency response services teams.
One ambulance, three rescue pickup trucks, two rubber boats, one jet ski and one service vehicle will be prepositioned to be mobilized in responding to emergency cases.
“We will be closely monitoring our beaches and our rivers as these are the primary destinations of tourists,” PDRRMO officer-in-charge Dr. Alvin Cruz said.
Ortega reminded people to take extra precautionary measures especially when swimming at beaches for a safe and meaningful vacation.
She also reminded motorists to ensure their safety and be responsible drivers.
"As you visit La Union and enjoy our beaches and rivers this summer, I urge everyone to prioritize safety. Swim in designated areas, local advisories, and be safe,” David said.
“We are targeting zero casualty during the duration of the season,” Provincial Health Officer Dr. Hermenegildo Velasco said.
Ortega reminded the people to abide by the Anti-Disturbance Ordinance on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday to maintain the solemnity of religious activities.
Among the prohibited activities include concerts, discos, karaoke, band performance shows, gigs, events, and parties.
