The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the heat index reached the danger level in 17 areas on Friday, April 11, including Cavite City in Cavite and Virac town in Catanduanes, which recorded 45 degrees Celsius (°C).
A heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C falls under the danger classification, which poses a heightened risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Prolonged exposure may also lead to heatstroke.
Based on PAGASA’s monitoring, the highest heat index recorded on Friday was 45°C in Sangley Point in Cavite City and Virac in Catanduanes.
Meanwhile, it reached 44°C in Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Echague in Isabela, Baler in Aurora, Masbate City in Masbate, and Catarman in Northern Samar.
The heat index was recorded at 43°C in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan; Camiling in Tarlac; Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas; and Iloilo City in Iloilo.
Other areas recorded a 42°C heat index, which includes Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City; Cubi Pt. in Subic Bay, Olongapo City; San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Infanta in Quezon; Pili in Camarines Sur; and Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte.
