Camille Villar secures One Cebu endorsement ahead of 2025 Senate race

Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar received a major boost in her senatorial bid for the 2025 midterm elections after securing the endorsement of One Cebu, the province’s dominant political party, led by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

During a political gathering last Wednesday in Cebu, Governor Garcia formally raised Villar’s hand, symbolizing the party’s full support. The endorsement was further reinforced by the presence and backing of all 31 mayors under the One Cebu coalition, solidifying Villar’s foothold in the vote-rich province.

“I am grateful, and at the same time, humbled by the support from Gov. Gwen Garcia and the mayors who came all out to welcome us,” Villar said in a statement. She also reaffirmed her pledge to support the province through initiatives in job creation, women’s empowerment, financial literacy, and assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Villar, who is running for a Senate seat for the first time, was accompanied by her brother, incumbent Senator Mark Villar, as she campaigned across Cebu and other parts of Region 7, also known as Central Visayas.

According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Region 7 has a total of 4,753,563 registered voters eligible to participate in the 2025 elections. Cebu remains the region’s political stronghold with 3,702,363 registered voters and 9,443 clustered precincts.

With the strong backing of One Cebu, Camille Villar is expected to gain significant momentum in the Visayas, boosting her national campaign as the midterm elections draw closer.
