43 stung by native bees at Tagum City park

Forty-three visitors were taken to the Davao Regional Medical Center after they stung by a swarm of native bees at the Energy Park in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Wednesday afternoon, April 10.

The Tagum City government said 39 have been discharged while four are still recovering at the hospital.

The city government said their needs were taken care of.

"The City Mayor's Office also sent personnel to ensure that the patients receive proper medical care and assistance for them and their families," the city government said.

The city government reminded the people not to disturb any beehives to avoid any untoward incidents.

“We urge the public not to disturb or harm any beehive or wildlife they encounter and to report it to the authorities instead,” the city government said.

An individual allegedly disturbed a bee hive that prompted the bees to attack. 

The swarm was controlled by trained beekeepers from the City Agriculture Office through fogging operations.

The park returned to regular operating hours hours after the incident.

Investigation is underway to determine the cause of the attack.
