Police arrest tricycle driver who killed pregnant woman in Tondo


The Manila Police District (MPD) arrested on Thursday, April 10, a man who allegedly killed a pregnant woman and threw her body in a garbage dump in Tondo, Manila.

Authorities did not disclose the identity of the 28-year-old victim.

Police said the victim's lifeless body was discovered around 2:30 a.m. on April 8 in front of the Bagong Tondo Wellness Center along Juan Luna Street, Barangay 61. 

She was reportedly lying on a pile of garbage, was barefoot, and bore multiple stab wounds, particularly on the chest.

Barangay Ex-Officer Marian Dignos, who first responded to the scene following a tip from a concerned citizen, noted that the victim also appeared to be pregnant.

Police said the victim was rushed to the Ospital ng Tondo by responding personnel from the MPD Tayuman Precinct but was declared dead on arrival at around 4:30 a.m. 

On Thursday, authorities identified the suspect as Reynaldo Dela Cruz Dela Rosa, a tricycle driver and a resident of 735 Lecheros Street, Barangay 61, Tondo, Manila.

The MPD Homicide Section and Police Station 7 are reviewing the CCTV footage and gathering additional evidence to determine the motive and circumstances surrounding the killing.

Charges are being prepared against the suspect.
