The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed at least 366 policemen to assist in the evacuation and security of residents that were displaced by the recent eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in the Negros Island.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the policemen were tasked to assist the local government units in the pre-emptive evacuation and other disaster response in relation to the ongoing volcanic activity.
He said the preemptive evacuation immediately started in the affected areas.
“This proactive measure, aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in the six kilometer danger zone, comes as authorities continue to monitor the volcano's behavior closely,” said Marbil.
A total of 366 policemen have been deployed to assist with the evacuation process, with 90 officers stationed at various evacuation centers in the towns La Castellana, La Carlota, Bago, and Canlaon City.
Based on the latest monitoring, a total of 9,275 people are in the evacuation centers.
“We are working closely with local government units and relevant agencies to ensure that evacuation efforts are carried out smoothly and efficiently. I urge everyone in affected areas to cooperate with authorities and stay alert for updates,” said Marbil.
He said the PNP is closely monitoring the situation and that teams have conducted site inspections and coordination efforts to ensure that evacuees receive necessary support, including access to water and other essential resources.
