Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval confirmed on Wednesday, April 9, that her legal team is seriously considering legal action against individuals responsible for spreading fake news in the city.
The statement comes amid growing concerns about the negative impact of misinformation on public trust and governance.
In her statement, Sandoval expressed her readiness to take decisive action against those maliciously spreading false information.
"Handa man po tayo na sagutin ang mga paninirang iyan, ay mas pinagtutuunan po natin ng pansin ang ating mga kababayan. Patuloy tayong magseserbisyo para sa kanila kasabay ng ating pagpapaalala na patuloy na maging mapagmatyag, mapanuri, at matalinong gumagamit ng social media (While we are ready to respond to those malicious accusations, our focus remains on serving our fellow citizens. We will continue to deliver public service for them, while also reminding everyone to stay vigilant, discerning, and responsible when using social media),”she said.
The city government stressed the harmful effects of misinformation, particularly when it comes to public services and governance. With social media platforms becoming a primary source of information, the spread of fake news has become a significant challenge for local leaders.
Sandoval highlighted the importance of public awareness and responsibility in managing information in the digital age.
She also assured city residents that the legal team is carefully monitoring the spread of false information and is prepared to take legal action once those responsible are identified.

She encouraged the public to remain vigilant in combating misinformation.
"Patuloy tayong magseserbisyo para sa kanila kasabay ng ating pagpapaalala na patuloy na maging mapagmatyag, mapanuri, at matalinong gumagamit ng social media (We will continue to serve them, alongside our reminder to remain vigilant, discerning, and responsible users of social media)," Sandoval said.
As the investigation continues, residents and social media users are being urged to be cautious about the information they consume and share, with the goal of fostering a more informed and responsible digital community.
