Do not idolize or applaud politicians who make problematic comments, particularly misogynistic and insensitive remarks on women, Malacañang said.

This after President Marcos branded disrespectful remarks of some politicians towards women as unacceptable.

He said when we asked him for comments earlier: those are unacceptable)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing on Thursday, April 10.

According to the President, it is unacceptable for candidates to have this kind of narrative in their campaigns)," Castro said.

Applauding candidates or leaders who make disrespectful comments on women and making rape and womanizing into a joke have no place in the Marcos administration, Castro said.

She encouraged the public to stop idolizing and applauding politicians who make such remarks as she aired sentiments on how these actions have been normalized.

How is it that this kind of speech used to be applauded? It’s as if candidates or leaders who speak without any respect, especially towards women, were being praised. Womanizing by men is being flaunted and made into a joke. Even rape situations are being turned into mockery)," Castro lamented.

This should no longer be the case. People like this should not be idolized. They should not be emulated. This kind of behavior should no longer be applauded. If it was once tolerated and even applauded, it should no longer happen under the administration of President Marcos)," Castro added.

The Palace official further said every candidate, especially those aspiring to be leaders of the country, should uphold and continue to promote respect, integrity, and truthfulness in their remarks while they are making promises to the voters.

Without naming names, Castro said that the President was glad that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) was quick to respond to such disrespectful comments made by some candidates.
