Heat index in 12 areas, including NAIA, hits danger level on April 10

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the heat index in 12 areas, including its Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) monitoring station in Pasay City, reached the “danger” level on Thursday, April 10.

A heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C falls under the danger classification, where there is an increased risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to such conditions may lead to heatstroke.

Based on PAGASA’s monitoring, the highest heat index recorded on Thursday was 45°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, it reached 44°C in Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite, and 43°C in NAIA, Pasay City, Metro Manila; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Tayabas City, Quezon; and Roxas City, Capiz.

Other areas recorded a 42°C heat index, which includes Aparri, Cagayan; Echague, Isabela; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Virac, Catanduanes; Dumangas, Iloilo; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

The heat index combines air temperature and relative humidity to estimate the apparent temperature, or how hot it feels to the human body.
