The Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial ticket is urging overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to go in droves to designated polling areas upon the start of overseas absentee voting on Sunday, April 13.
Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco, Alyansa campaign manager, highlighted the importance of the OFW's participation in this year’s mid-term elections.
“Your vote matters now more than ever. The challenges facing OFWs today—contract violations, rising costs, family separation—can only be solved if we put the right leaders in place,” Tiangco said in a statement Thursday, April 10.
He encouraged all overseas voters to verify their status, visit their embassies or consulates, and make their voices count.
“Boto ninyo, boses ninyo (Your vote is your voice). Let’s work together for a Bagong Pilipinas that includes every Filipino, no matter where in the world they may be,” Tiangco said.
According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), 1.24 million overseas Filipinos are eligible to vote in this year’s mid-term elections. The figure reflects a 26.84 percent decrease from 1.62 million in 2022.
The month-long voting period, which ends on May 12, allows Filipinos based overseas to vote for senators and party-list groups who will help shape the country’s future.
The rest of Filipinos back home will cast their ballots on May 12.
Comprising the administration-back ticket are former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III; former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Benhur Abalos; former Senators Panfilo Lacson, Manny Pacquiao; Senators Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid, Imee Marcos, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Francis Tolentino; Makati City Mayor Abby Binay; House Deputy Speaker Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar; and House Deputy Majority Leader ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo.
Tiangco said overseas voters have the power to reshape the nation’s direction—even from thousands of miles away.
“Our kababayan abroad may be far from home, but their votes carry the weight of millions of families they continue to support. The best way to protect their sacrifices is to elect leaders who will fight for them,” Tiangco said.
Major OFW hubs with the largest voter populations are the United Arab Emirates (189,892), United States (178,033), Saudi Arabia (130,711), Hong Kong (83,330), and Taiwan (71,009).
