Long-time rivals De La Salle and Ateneo seek to resume their triumphant ways when they clash on Wednesday, April 2, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Match is at 1 p.m. before University of Santo Tomas and Adamson collide at 3 p.m. in their bid to bounce back from recent defeats.
Coming off an emotional 15-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 16-14 win over the Tigresses, the Lady Spikers eye to reassert their dominance over the Blue Eagles, who are enjoying a three-game winning streak.
Angel Canino, who was confirmed to be well after a scare involving an accident collision with Shevana Laput in their last game, is anticipated to carry the fight for La Salle as it aims to maintain its place to clinch one of the two twice-to-beat semifinal advantages.
The Lady Spikers currently tote a 6-3 mark at second behind defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs (9-1).
Shevana Laput is also set to join forces with Canino, along with Alleiah Malaluan, Amie Provido, Jynne Soreno and rookie Mikole Reyes.
“It takes one game at a time. We gotta rest, but then, be ready for the next game, because no matter what happens, we’re just gonna play our game,” said Laput, who erupted with a career-high 25 points in their first meeting against Ateneo.
“Kami naman kahit sino yung darating na game, paghahandaan talaga namin. Wala kaming babalewalain,” added La Salle deputy coach Noel Orcullo.
Easier said than done, as Ateneo is slowly regaining its dominant form with a recent 25-23, 25-14, 25-23 victory over Adamson that put them at 4-5.
Lyann De Guzman, AC Miner and Zey Pacia are expected to be at the forefront with Yvanna Sulit, Jihann Chuatico, and Taks Fujimoto as supporting cast for the Blue Eagles, who want to avenge their 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19 loss to the Lady Spikers last March 12.
Meanwhile, UST (5-4) guns to end its three-game slip and keep its playoff contention alive against Adamson (3-6), which it beat in its first meeting, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25.
Angge Poyos, Reg Jurado, Cassie Carballo and Detdet Pepito need to double their efforts and must have ample support from Mabeth Hilongo, Pia Abbu, and Bianca Plaza to boost the Tigresses, while the Lady Falcons lean on super rookie Nitura, Frances Mordi, Barbie Jamili, Jen Villegas, and Fhei Sagaysay in order to get back on the winning track.
In men’s action, La Salle meets Ateneo at 9 a.m. while UST and Adamson battle at 11 a.m.
