Police Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao, Cauayan police chief, said that the baby’s 36-year-old father identified as Rey sought the 42-year-old suspect’s help after his live-in partner fell ill when they had an argument at home.
The victim’s live-in partner is the suspect’s sister.
However, the suspect identified as Tata allegedly suddenly attacked Rey with a cane cutter.
Rey was hacked in the legs and his son he was holding at that time was hit and his left leg was cut off.
Their neighbors brought them to a hospital while the suspect fled.
Garinganao said that the suspect’s grudges against the victim might have triggered the incident.
He added that they are awaiting Rey’s decision if he will press charges against his common brother-in-law.
