Pasig LGU to shorten school hours, shift to distance learning amid extreme heat on March 10

As recommended by school heads and the Pasig Schools Division Office (SDO), the local government will shorten school hours and shift to distance learning for public elementary and secondary schools (Kinder to Grade 12), including the Alternative Learning System (ALS), starting Monday, March 10, due to extreme heat.

The local government said that school principals will announce the details of the shortened class hours based on the school's schedule (morning, afternoon, or single shift).

When the local heat index forecast reaches 42°C, public schools will shift to modular or online distance learning.

School principals will announce the shift based on the heat index forecast for the following day, which will be posted on the Facebook page of the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

If Pasig DRRMO does not release a local heat index forecast, residents may refer to data from NAIA, Pasay, or Science Garden, Quezon City.

“Kung sakaling walang posting tungkol sa local heat index forecast mula sa Pasig City DRRMO, saka lamang maaaring gamitin ang forecasts mula sa NAIA, Pasay, o Science Garden, Quezon City Stations (If there is no local heat index forecast from Pasig City DRRMO, only then should forecasts from NAIA, Pasay, or Science Garden, Quezon City be used),” it said.

Schools are also advised to limit outdoor exposure, especially physical activities, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, private schools have the discretion to implement schedule adjustments in response to extreme heat.
