New CAAP chief vows to strengthen regional airport development
Newly-appointed Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Raul del Rosario underscored his commitment to advance the development of regional airports to improve accessibility and enhance air travel across the country.
On the first week of his appointment, del Rosario accompanied Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Capt. Jim Sydiongco, CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun Lucas, and other transportation and aviation officials in visiting Iloilo International Airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport, and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
During the visit to regional airports, del Rosario engaged with local government units (LGUs) to discuss collaborative efforts for the continued modernization of regional airports. He promised local officials that he would fast-track the development of their airport infrastructure.
He said the CAAP is committed to developing safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airports nationwide, reinforcing the role of regional aviation hubs in fostering economic progress and connectivity.
A retired military general with an extensive background in aviation and defense, del Rosario was appointed as the new CAAP chief last week, replacing Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo.
Bringing over four decades of distinguished service, del Rosario held key leadership positions, including as vice president of the Clark International Airport Corporation, and commander of the Western and Central Commands of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, among others.
He holds a master’s degree in Defense Studies from the University of Canberra, Australia and a bachelor’s degree from the Philippine Military Academy. Throughout his career, he has undertaken numerous specialized training programs including Flight Safety Management and Aircraft Accident Investigation.
In a flag-raising ceremony last March 3, del Rosario reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring continuity and advancing progress within the CAAP.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure the continued modernization of our airports and air navigation systems, enhancing operational efficiency and passenger experience. Efforts will be made to further strengthen regulatory processes, allowing for smoother transactions and better services for airline operators and the flying public,” he said.
